REVIEW: Fantastic Seafood Dinner at Wind & Waves Grill at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort

On a recent visit to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, we stopped by Wind & Waves Grill for a delicious seafood dinner.

This table service restaurant at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort has a relatively small seating area with an open kitchen.

Menu

We tried the French Onion Soup, Crab Cakes, Key West Shrimp & Grits, and Oak-grilled Salmon, with Bananas Foster Bread Pudding for dessert.

Bread Service

The classic dinner rolls were terrific. They were served hot from the oven and tasted great. They paired perfectly with the whipped butter and some pepper and salt.

The bread basket also included sweet, relatively moist cornbread.

Starters

French Onion Soup – $9

Caramelized Onions, Melted Swiss and Gruyère, Croutons

The croutons soaked the soup and added texture, while the cheese brought a creamy, toasted flavor.

This soup has sweet caramelized onions. It was not overly salted as some onion soups tend to be.
We found this to be one of Disney’s best French onion soups.

Crab Cakes – $14

House Rémoulade, Pomegranate, Arugula, Walnut Vinaigrette

The house rémoulade doesn’t give these crab cakes a fluffy consistency. You can taste the crab, and the flavor doesn’t disappoint.

The pomegranate pairs well with the crab, making for an enjoyable dish.

Entrées

Roasted Salmon – $26

Bacon-crusted Salmon with Braised Red Cabbage and Horseradish Cream served with Spätzle

This was a generous portion of salmon. It had a light and flaky texture and had been perfectly grilled on the open oak grill. The bacon crust elevated this entrée to another level.

The braised red cabbage, horseradish cream, and small spätzle complimented this dish well. This entrée had an outstanding sweet and salty balance. This was one of the better seafood items we tried lately.

Key West Shrimp & Grits – $22

Jerk Spice, Coconut Grits, Leek Cream, Pineapple Chutney

When we checked in to the resort, the Cast Member at the front desk immediately suggested trying this item. As we saw it, we had no choice!

Sometimes, coconut and pineapple-infused items can be overly sweet. Luckily, that was not the case for this entrée. The grits had a perfect consistency with mild but enjoyable coconut and pineapple flavor.

The shrimp were cooked to perfection and had a great mix of jerk spices. This portion size was nice and filling. We see why this dish is beloved amongst the Cast Members here.

Dessert

Bananas Foster Bread Pudding – $8

Roasted Banana with Salted Caramel Sauce

The server offered to bring the Bread Pudding “a la mode.” We recommend adding the scoop of ice cream, as the bread pudding was too dry for our taste.

We would have appreciated more caramel sauce.

We wouldn’t say it was the worst dessert we’ve ever had, but it did not meet our expectations.

Overall Impressions

On the whole, we loved our meal here at Wind & Waves Grill. The fish and shrimp were cooked to perfection, the accompaniments complimented the entrées very well, and we left satisfied because of the large portions.

If you’re ever visiting Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, this should be high on your to-do list.
