Double Homicide Suspect Arrested at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside

A South Carolina teenager who is the suspect in a double homicide was arrested at a Disney World hotel last month, records show.

Authorities caught 17-year-old DeJaun Marty Smith at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside around 7:30 p.m. on March 11, according to a newly released incident report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith, who is from Ladson, South Carolina, was taken to the Orange County Juvenile Assessment Center without any problems, the sheriff’s incident report said.

He was transported back to South Carolina where he awaits trial over charges stemming from an incident where he is accused of shooting and killing two teenagers in the parking lot outside a public library on March 2, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina. Smith is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possessing a deadly weapon during a violent crime.

Authorities don’t have a motive for the shooting. Smith is expected to stand trial as an adult and could face life in prison if he’s convicted of the crimes, the Post and Courier newspaper previously reported. It appears Smith was on vacation when he was caught in his Orlando hotel room. Authorities didn’t know if he went to the theme parks or visited any attractions in Central Florida, said Carli Drayton, spokeswoman at Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Drayton declined to say how authorities tracked Smith to Orlando other than the U.S. Marshals Service assisted with detaining him.

She could not provide details on whether anyone else was with Smith who booked the hotel room for him since Smith is a minor.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is a moderately priced resort located at Walt Disney World.

It’s the second story WDWNT has reported this week involving the hotel. The same week Smith was arrested at the hotel, Disney and the sheriff’s office pulled a sting and caught a pair of Port Orleans housekeepers stealing cash after several thefts had been previously reported, an Orange County sheriff’s arrest report said.

  1. Maybe the 2 housekeepers stole his credit card and was using it. And that is how they trace him there. LOL

  2. My family and I were in the same building and watched this arrest happen and it was incredible! We were alerted only by shouts of “come out with your hands up” went to the window/door to see close to a dozen tactile ready officers there to detain him, Disney knew nothing about it when we inquired the next day. The whole thing took about 6-8 minutes. The suspect was led away wearing a lion king button down top.
