CDC Ends COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships

Effective immediately, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ended their COVID-19 program for cruise ships.

A notification on the CDC website reads, “As of July 18, 2022, CDC’s COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships is no longer in effect and this page will no longer be updated. New guidance for cruise ships to mitigate and manage COVID-19 transmission will be available in the coming days.”

The CDC previously had a mandatory Conditional Sailing Order with certain health and safety requirements to mitigate COVID-19 aboard cruise ships. The order expired in January 2022 and the CDC lifted their COVID-19 risk advisory for cruise ships. The program became voluntary but most cruise lines, including Disney Cruise Line, opted in.

Over the past several months, Disney Cruise Line has altered some of their COVID-19 requirements. A COVID-19 test is no longer required at the terminal on embarkation day, but guests are required to provide their own test results before sailing. All vaccine-eligible guests are still required to be fully vaccinated before sailing.

Disney Cruise Line ships continue to operate at partial capacity and distancing is required when meeting characters. Masks are not required at most locations on board.
