REVIEW: Phenomenal Pho and Udon Return to The Noodle Exchange at the 2022 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

When the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival opened this year, a handful of booths were scheduled to open later, on August 15, 2022. Finally, that day has come, and we’re snacking our way around the World Showcase, again, to sample all of the new booths! Up next on our list is The Noodle Exchange, a booth that caters to flavors from East Asia.

Traditional Spicy Vietnamese Beef Pho – $5.50

with Shaved Beef, Mushrooms, and Thai Basil

The pho is very spicy, and the noodles are a little chewy for a light rice noodle. The broth tastes like a pho broth, but without the richness of a traditional bone broth, which is what pho should use. This also has a spicy kick if you get one of the peppers. It has a good flavor, but avoid the peppers if you don’t like spice.

Chinese Char Siu Pork Udon – $5.50

with Mushrooms, Bok Choy, and Soy Pickled Egg

These seemed thinner than a traditional udon noodle, but the flavor is really good and rich in spice without being hot. You get half of a hard boiled egg, and the pork is tender. We found this to be the best option at the Marketplace.

Thai Shrimp and Coconut-Curry Rice Noodles – $6.50

with Shiitake Mushrooms and Thai Basil

For the money, you get several nice-sized shrimp. The curry is present, but not overwhelming. It has a nice soup consistency that works well with the mushrooms, but it should have more vegetables for a curry. It’s not bad for what it is.

Tofu Pho – $5.50

with Mushrooms and Thai Basil

This was just okay. You get two enoki mushrooms that are barely cooked. The tofu has a decent consistency, but overall, the dish is a little lacking. If you don’t eat any kind of meat, it’ll do, but otherwise, you’re better off with the other choices here.

Playalinda Brewing Company Yaupon Brothers Green Tea Pale Ale, Titusville, FL (6.0% ABV) – $5.00 for 6 oz., $9.00 for 12 oz.

Danielle P. on Untappd says this beer is “light,” with a “subtle green tea flavor,” and that it’s “different.”

A to Z Riesling, Oregon ($16/bottle) – $5.00

From A to Z Wineworks: “Gorgeously aromatic, the A to Z Wineworks Oregon Riesling greets with bright fresh citrus (lemon, mandarin orange, lime sherbet, grapefruit) and tropical aromas (green papaya, lychee, pineapple), as well as revealing hints of honeydew, pear, apple, quince, apricot, and floral and savory notes of honeysuckle, rose, bay leaves, sage, and tarragon. The wine initially zips across the palate with lively energy showing a rich texture, noticeable salinity, and notes of the same abundant fruits that greeted the nose. The juicy palate has lovely, mouth-watering acidity balanced by a touch of well-integrated residual sweetness, making it off-dry rather than sweet.”
