Bluey, the animated character of the hit BBC series by the same name, makes her Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut tomorrow as a new giant character balloon. As first reported by WDWNT in October, the Bluey balloon was created by Macy’s Parade Studio and stands tall, measuring 51 feet long, 37 feet wide, and 52 feet tall. Approximately 50 gallons of blue paint were used to hand-paint Bluey into her larger-than-life form.

Created by Joe Brumm in 2018, “Bluey” is an Australian kids’ TV show about a family of dogs that has captured the hearts of children from across the globe. The Emmy-winning show is popular with children worldwide and follows the adventures of a six-year-old blue heeler pup named Bluey and her dad, Bandit, mom Chilli, and younger sister Bingo. The show is available for streaming on Disney+ and airs on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel, making it a contender for kid-favorite in tomorrow’s 96th Macy’s Parade line-up.

The balloon’s debut appearance follows the United States debut of the “Bluey’s Big Play” theatrical stage show, which debuted earlier this week at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City and has now embarked on a U.S. tour. The theatrical adaptation of the Bluey series features brilliantly created puppets, an original story written by the show’s creator, and new music.

The Mandolorian’s Grogu Returns

While Bluey makes her debut, a Funko-inspired balloon featuring The Mandalorian’s Grogu will be back for its second year. As the first Star Wars character to ever appear at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, this “Baby Yoda” float highlights many of the features Lucasfilms fans love, making it an overwhelming favorite among parade viewers of all ages.
