The platinum Mickey statue honoring 100 years of The Walt Disney Company has been returned to Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland, this time with the correct Walt Disney quote. The statue was installed for 100 Years of Wonder in late January with the incorrect quote “It all started with a mouse.”
The full original quote by Walt Disney was actually “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing: that it was all started by a mouse.” It’s a minor difference, but still a misquote of the company’s iconic founder. The Mickey statue was removed within a couple of weeks and has returned with the correct quote.
Instagram user rachelgoestodisney shared photos with us of the replaced Mickey statue. He’s in the planter at the front end of Main Street.
The banner on his base now reads “…it was all started by a mouse.”
The incorrect quote was just one of many recent errors at Disneyland Resort this year. The banners along the Disneyland Resort tram route had several inaccuracies, including the opening year of Matterhorn Bobsleds and the release year of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” They were later replaced.
Signage on the construction walls for Indiana Jones Adventure was riddled with typos that were also later fixed.
In addition to the Mickey statue, there is a Minnie statue with the phrase “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” near Tomorrowland.
Disney already announced that MagicBand+ would interact with select Disney100 decorations, so we can assume it will interact with these statues in a similar or exactly the same way as it does with the Fab 50 statues at Walt Disney World. These effects have yet to be turned on but we recently saw speakers installed near a Disney100 medallion. Check out some of the regular Fab 50 interactions and the full Fab 50 Quest available with MagicBand+.
