Scaffolding has been removed from the exterior of Despicable Me Minion Mayhem in Universal Studios Florida now that refurbishment work has wrapped up.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Façade
Back in January, a covered entryway was installed at the attraction’s entrance after a missing brick was spotted above the entryway, raising concerns about falling debris. Scaffolding and tarps were installed later.
The missing brick was just below and to the left of the circular window, but it has been restored.
The Despicable Me Minion Mayhem sign was repainted and wrapped so the lettering is brighter.
The façade otherwise looks the same, just refreshed.
This leaves the attraction looking its best before the opening of Illumination Avenue.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem & Illumination Avenue
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a simulator ride that transforms guests into Minions, taking them along on Gru’s latest scheme. The attraction opened in 2012, taking over the areas where Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast and The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera once stood. In addition to Universal Studios Florida, this attraction can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Singapore, and Universal Studios Beijing.
The area where Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Super Silly Stuff can be found, known as Production Central, is currently undergoing an extensive transformation as portions of the area are reworked into Illumination Avenue. The newly transformed area of Universal Studios Florida will also include Minion Cafe and the new Villain Con Minion Blast attraction. Both are expected to open later this year. Production Central is also currently home to Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. At this time, the exact layout of Illumination Avenue is unclear in terms of dividing the area up as the Minions attractions currently sit between Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.
The back of Transformers: The Ride 3D show building was painted bright blue to apparently match the new Illumination Avenue theming.
Villain-Con Minion Blast replaces Shrek 4-D, which permanently closed in January 2022. Villain-Con was featured in the first “Minions” spinoff movie, and the ride will feature various villains from the franchise, including the Vicious 6. The ride will purportedly be a shooting attraction with guests on a moving walkway.
Minion Café replaces the Monsters Café and the Bone Chillin’ Stand. Take a look at the Minion Café façade. A Minion Café also exists at Universal Studios Hollywood. Check out our Minion Café review.
Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café are scheduled to open this summer. Mel’s Drive-In is rumored to close for refurbishment in late May, while Minion Café opens around the same time.
