The Cake Bake Shop Roof at Disney’s BoardWalk Nears Completion in Walt Disney World

We noticed some new updates to the roof at The Cake Bake Shop Bakery by Gwendolyn Rogers at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort in Walt Disney World.

Roof Nearly Completed at The Cake Bake Shop

A new bakery is being constructed at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers will offer cookies, French macarons, brownies, dessert bars, pies, and cheesecakes, amongst other treats.

The construction near Disney’s BoardWalk Resort shows the upcoming bakery will have a gazebo-like appearance. The building was once home to ESPN Club, and while the basic shape will remain the same, many of the walls and the tower were demolished for the re-theming.

A cherry picker allows crew to work near the top of the structure.

Images of Gwendolyn’s bakes can be seen papering the construction walls.

The shop is due to open in 2023. We last checked in on this space a little over a week ago.

Concept art for The Cake Bake is also pictured on the construction walls. Take a closer look at the image below.

As we can see from the concept art, there will be multiple entrances – one for the bakery and one for the restaurant. Off to the left, we can see large French doors that are opened to the outside.

Shingles have been added to one section of the roof so far.

Plenty of work still needs to be done on the structure’s exterior.

Disney’s official description of the new location claims guests will:

Upon entering, you’ll find counters lined with handmade cakes that are one-of-a-kind in beauty and taste, attractively displayed on French porcelain platters topped with glass domes. Indulge in these and other blissful bites.

Gwendolyn Rogers

Gwendolyn Rogers was born in September of 1965 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a producer and an actress, known for her work with “Me, Myself & Irene” (2000), “Demoted” (2011), “Man Down” (2015), and “Hotline” (2022). Another production, “Glide,” is currently in progress.

A lifelong baker, she struggled to get her start in the patisserie business. She spent years running a small-time business baking out of her own home, attempting to find investors who would agree to fund her dreams. She hoped to build a homey, comfortable business space in an actual house instead of being located in a strip mall. After years of looking, she was approved for a loan that allowed her to acquire an “old, dilapidated house” near her home and was able to transform it into her first bakery.

Above is an image of an existing location of The Cake Bake Shop.

It took two years of designing, remodeling, and building before the first version of The Cake Bake Shop opened. She started with only herself and one employee. Gwendolyn baked all the cakes, cookies, and pies, ran the cash register, delivered food, and washed dishes. Her new business was a success from the day she opened shop, and found she soon needed more employees. She used her social media feed to announce what she was making that day, which resulted in a line out the door. She also decorated the space seasonally to delight her guests.

After five successful years, she opened a second location that also functions as a full-service restaurant in Carmel City Center in Carmel, Indiana which has reservations booked fully up to six months in advance.

Her newest location will be located at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World which is due to open this year.
