Universal Orlando Resort’s newest attraction, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, is set to open sometime this summer. Most of Minion Land is in a soft opening phase, so it’s only a matter of time before the new attraction will begin welcoming guests as well. Minion Cafe, Illumination Theater, and more experiences are now open in Minion Land, but we’re still patiently awaiting the opening of Villain-Con. Signs are beginning to point to the opening being very soon, though, especially now that we’ve spotted one of the signs covered up.

The Express entrance sign for the attraction is now covered up, leading us to believe we are very close to the construction walls coming down.

Earlier this year, we spotted signs for the attraction’s standby entrance as well as the Express entrance. Now, the Express sign on the left side of the entrance has been covered, which we assume means the attraction will not take Express passes when it opens. This could just be during the “technical rehearsals”, but new attractions typically do not offer Express access when they open. VelociCoaster only recently began accepting Express passes, and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure still does not accept Universal Express. It is highly likely that Villain-Con will not accept Express passes when it opens.

Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast is a moving walkway stand-through shooting attraction that will use screen technology, gaming interactivity, and physical sets. Guests will put their villainous skills to the test in these immersive environments to become the next member of the Vicious 6. This interactive attraction will have no height requirement, and guests will be able to keep track of their scores and compete against each other. You can read more about what we know in our post here. Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast is taking the place of the now-defunct Shrek 4D attraction at Universal Studios Florida. You can take a final look at Shrek 4D before the closure in our post here and the closing night crowds in our post here.

At this time, we still don’t have an opening date for Illuminations’ Villain-Con Minion Blast. Are you looking forward to the new Villain-Con experience opening at Universal Studios Florida?
