*NEW* Terrifyin’ Twice-Spiced Chicken Sandwich – $12.99

Spicy fried chicken breast dipped in hot honey and topped with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño poppers, and bacon

Cosmic Rays not so scary food 11

The chicken sandwich lives up to its “twice-spiced” billing. The chicken itself is stellar; the all-white meat patty is perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, a slight spice on the backend complementing a subtle sweetness from the honey. The honey gave the breading an almost Honey Nut Cheerios-like taste.

The bun is as serviceable as you’d find at any Walt Disney World Resort counter service — perfectly fine, but not remarkable in any way. Where this sandwich loses points is the bacon and jalapeño poppers; they’re not bad, per se, they’re just not needed. They muddy an otherwise straightforward and balanced sandwich, undercutting a rare Cosmic Ray’s accomplishment. You should still check this out for the chicken alone.

*NEW* The Snarling Sub – $11.99

Meatball sub with spicy marinara, pesto and pearl mozzarella “teeth” served on a black roll

Cosmic Rays not so scary food 8

The Snarling Sub also lives up to its name, as it had us snarling as we tasted it. The meatballs are fine and the spicy marinara has a surprising kick, but that’s where we’ll halt the niceties.

The black bread is akin to something you’d find at Subway (just forget the “Eat Fresh” tagline, as this roll was stale). The mozzarella cheese is cut into blocks and isn’t melted, looking like something you’d find on an underwhelming charcuterie board as opposed to a sub. The pesto sauce is unappetizing, having an off-putting chemical-like aroma that’s matched by its taste. We don’t recommend this item.

*NEW* Zombie Fingers – $6.49

Almond cookie fingers, Key lime pie white chocolate ganache, salted caramel crisp pearls, and sugar eyes

zombie fingers

Those who like Key Lime pie will love this dish. The mousse from which the fingers emerge has a profound tartness, even masking the flavor of the salted caramel pearls hidden inside of it. The almond-flavored cookies are rather unspectacular and one-note on their own, but they do effectively counter-punch the tartness of the mousse. We give this treat a thumbs up thanks to its cohesive flavors and unique presentation.

*NEW* River Stix Elixir – $5.49

Kiwi lemonade with luster dust (Non-alcoholic)

Cosmic Rays not so scary food 4

This drink is advertised as “kiwi lemonade with luster dust,” and that’s exactly what it is. It’s kiwi lemonade that sparkles. It’s not ridiculously sweet by any means, but the sweetness still may be too much for some. If you like kiwi lemonade, you’ll like this just fine.
