The Louisiana Bayou continues its slow, but steady growth into central Florida as crews continue to transform Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Some noticeable progress has transpired throughout the past few days, with aesthetic changes to the mountain and queue sticking out as some of the more significant developments.

Crews continue to work on the scaffolding-engrossed mountain, with the mesh grid atop the mountain still sticking out against the jungle of construction material.

As we wrote in our September 2 update, plaster and other materials will ultimately be added to the mesh-covered frame to create a new rounded mountain peak.

Some more aesthetic changes are occurring on the mountain, as this particular section has received some additional paint and blending since our last update.

Though the Tiana’s Foods water tower remains visually unchanged since our last visit, crews continue to work on it. Workers were focusing on the section immediately underneath the tower during our visit.

A new tarp has also been added to the section of the mountain near the Frontierland Railroad Station, but given its strange positioning, it may only be there to block the sun.

Using the aforementioned Frontierland Railroad Station, we can see that work has progressed on the future attraction’s queue. On September 2, we noted that crews had started to dismantle the railroad station’s exit ramp and stairs. That staircase is now completely gone, the only indication it existed being its still-present base.

Work has also progressed on the barn in the attraction’s queue area. It was painted yellow in July, and we noticed some murals being painted on its side last month. One mural appears to be complete, and while outlines are still visible around the other, some additional progress has been made.

The Br’er Rabbit weathervane remains atop the barn.

No noticeable changes have transpired on the flume portion of the ride, though we did notice crews working in the left tunnel.

Disney Parks announced intentions to retheme Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom with a “Princess and the Frog”-inspired overhaul in 2020. The new attraction’s name was revealed as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in mid-2022, and additional concept art and ride details were unveiled later that year.

On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, guests will join Tiana, Naveen, Louis the music-loving alligator, and other characters both familiar and brand new as they embark on an adventure to prepare for a Mardi Gras party. “Dozens” of audio-animatronics will be constructed for the attraction, with ride and queue music set to be composed by award-winning artists PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard. Complementing the New Orleans jazz-inspired soundtrack will be the sweet and appetizing aroma of beignets, which Disney previously announced would be pumped into the queue.

Guests will hear a few familiar voices on the ride, as a number of voice actors, including Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Bruno Campos (Naveen), and Michael Leon Wooley (Louis), will reprise their roles from the 2009 animated feature. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song) and remains Disney’s most recent foray into theatrically-released traditional animation.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is currently scheduled to open at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom in late 2024. Tiana already has a footprint in Disneyland, as the Tiana’s Palace quick service restaurant opened in New Orleans Square earlier this week. You can read our review of every item on the menu here.
