Executives Hope Addition of Epic Universe Theme Park Makes Universal Orlando Resort a Week-Long Vacation Destination Like Walt Disney World

NBCUniversal’s CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences Mark Woodbury has shared that a goal of Universal Epic Universe opening at Universal Orlando Resort is to get guests to stay for a full week, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Woodbury said that while creating Epic Universe, Universal looked for ways to extend the amount of time guests spend at the theme parks in Orlando, with the ultimate goal of getting visitors to stay for a full week to enjoy all that Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay water theme park, CityWalk, and Universal Epic Universe have to offer.

That became an opportunity for us to look at how do we expand visitation to the Orlando market that would garner us a full-week vacation? Right now, we get a good three days.

During the conference, Woodbury touted that the new park will be the “most technologically advanced park” yet for Universal and will allow guests to have a “frictionless experience” at Epic Universe and Universal’s other parks in Orlando, thanks to the use of “facial recognition, photo validation technology.”

Once open, Universal Epic Universe will consist of four themed lands, one of which is the already-announced Super Nintendo World. Provided the rumors are true, the other lands will be themed to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, and Universal Classic Monsters/Dark Universe.

Epic Universe is scheduled to open in 2025.
