VIDEO: See the Tower of Terror Pre-Show Disappearing Shiriki Utundu with Lights On at Tokyo DisneySea

If you’ve ever been to Tokyo DisneySea, chances are you’ve experienced the park’s own take on Tower of Terror. Its pre-show is one to remember, but have you ever seen it with lights on?

Tower of Terror Pre-Show with Lights On

A video has been shared to TikTok by user naoya_6 of the attraction’s pre-show, in which the room doesn’t fully dim, allowing guests to see Shiriki Utundu “disappear” before their eyes.

In the video, which you can watch below or at this link, it appears a guest has their camera or phone flash on, or a show light doesn’t fully dim, allowing viewers to see some of the magic without the cover of darkness. The disappearing Shiriki Utundu gag is fully lit, offering a chance to see how the trick works.

In the usual pre-show, guests enter Hightower’s office, where a large stained glass window shows the mogul, with the cursed idol sitting on a pedestal nearby. A Cast Member talks about Hightower, and then winds up a gramophone that plays a recording of Hightower’s final interview.

At that point, show lights are supposed to dim, and then the pre-show begins, with the stained glass window changing to share the story of Hightower’s final night. At the very end of the pre-show, Shiriki Utundu comes to life and uses the darkness to vanish into a starfield.

The Tower of Terror attraction at Tokyo DisneySea features an entirely original backstory, in which explorer and mogul Harrison Hightower III hides his ill-gotten treasures in Hotel Hightower. Among those is Shiriki Utundu, a cursed idol taken from an African tribe. Hightower disrespects the idol and its curse, which leads to his death on December 31, 1899.

Upon entering the attraction, it’s “12 years later,” and guests are part of a New York City Preservation Society tour of the abandoned hotel, with no idea if the curse of Shiriki Utundu is actually true.
