New ‘Luminous: The Symphony of Us’ Show Platform Added to World Showcase Lagoon

Since our visit yesterday to check out the new barge for “Luminous: The Symphony of Us,” a new, smaller platform has appeared in World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT.

New ‘Luminous’ Platform

The platform is off to the right of the barges in the lagoon. Unlike the previous nighttime spectacular, “Harmonious,” the barges for “Luminous” are not expected to sit in the lagoon all day, and sport a low-profile look that doesn’t obstruct the view across the World Showcase Lagoon. The barges are being moved into the lagoon for testing.

This platform is much smaller than the barges themselves, though it does seem to be holding a good amount of equipment.

We can spot some lighting fixtures, along with other show elements on the floating platform. This could possibly be used to support whatever show elements are included on the barges for the full display.

Disney announced in September 2022 that a new nighttime spectacular would replace “Harmonious” for 100 Years of Wonder and the 40th anniversary of EPCOT. The latter anniversary has passed, while the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company will come and go in October. “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” was reportedly supposed to premiere this fall but was delayed due to the soundtrack. It will now debut on December 5, 2023.

In the meantime, “EPCOT Forever” is performing nightly at EPCOT, as a temporary replacement for “Harmonious.” “Harmonious” was announced at Destination D23 in 2018 and debuted in October 2021 for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, replacing “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which had been performed since 1999. “EPCOT Forever” originally ran between “IllumiNations” and “Harmonious.”
