Yo ho, yo ho! Two new Pirates of the Caribbean hoodies have made landfall at Walt Disney World. We found the apparel in Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the gift shop next to Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom.
Pullover Hoodie – $54.99
The pullover hoodie is red with a large front pocket. A skull wearing a bandanna and an eyepatch is on the chest.
“Pirate” is in big black lettering at the top of the design. Other pirate words and phrases, like “Sailing the seven seas” and “Buccaneer,” are behind the skull.
Zip-Up Hoodie – $59.99
This black hoodie zips up and has two pockets on the front.
A tattered flag with a pirate skull and crossbones is on the left breast. “Yo ho Pirate’s life for me!” is in red lettering below the flag.
On the back of the hoodie are pirate phrases and words in white, yellow, and red letters.
The phrases are in various fonts, alongside images of an anchor, a ship, a skull, and a compass.

Pirates of the Caribbean
Walt Disney originally conceived of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction as a walkthrough wax museum. The idea evolved to become a boat ride and it opened in Disneyland in March 1967, just a few months after Walt’s death.
The original attraction has 630,000 gallons of water, 53 animal audio-animatronics, and 75 human audio-animatronics. Blue Bayou Restaurant overlooks the beginning of the ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean wasn’t an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom because the Walt Disney World Resort was so close to the real Caribbean that the company thought it wouldn’t be of interest to Floridian guests. They were proven wrong, however, and opened the second Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom in 1973.
Versions of the ride have gone on to open in Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland.
The ride also spawned the hugely successful “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise, which began in 2003 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” There have been five films so far, with more planned.
Disney just announced that Peg-Leg Pete, a.k.a. the Barker Bird, would be returning to Magic Kingdom after a long absence, this time at a new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern.
