At Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a new, very special treat is available during the brand new Disney Jollywood Nights hard-ticketed event: a cookie featuring Christmas Gertie.
Christmas Gertie Cookie – $4.29
The sugar cookie is fashioned after the iconic Gertie structure that houses the Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction treat stand near Echo Lake. Though the tall prehistoric statue has stood at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since the park’s opening on May 1, 1989, Gertie herself is not a Disney-created character; the dinosaur appeared in the Winsor McCay-directed “Gertie the Dinosaur” animated short in 1914, which was one of the first animated films ever created.
This cookie depicts the holiday version of Gertie, as she’s donned her Santa hat for the treat. It’s a nice touch on what was a surprisingly tasty (and fresh) dessert.
We have never had a non-stale sugar cookie at a Walt Disney World event, so we were pleasantly surprised at the softness and overall quality of this dessert. The soft texture of the cookie is complemented by a slight crunch from the green icing, which even features the snow that sits on the Gertie statue’s back.
The cookie itself is standard in taste, and the icing provides a hint of mint flavor that’s more complementary than overpowering. The mint is noticeable, but it’s not intolerable if that flavor profile isn’t your cup of tea.
We think the Christmas Gertie cookie is a home run. The cute and unique design combines with the freshness and subtle, but refreshing flavor profile to create a delicious cookie that we would absolutely recommend.
Christmas Gertie Cookie With Ice Cream – $6.29
Guests are also able to purchase the Christmas Gertie cookie alongside a cup of mint-flavored soft-serve ice cream, which itself is less of a winner. Mint soft-serve is rarely offered at Walt Disney World parties and events, so if you love mint-flavored desserts, this may be the highlight of Disney Jollywood Nights for you. If you’re decidedly neutral on the flavor, you may find this ice cream a bit overpowering.
The aftertaste of the soft serve is akin to toothpaste. The ice cream, on its own, is refreshing, if not a bit overly strong in mint flavor. It’s exceptionally tasty when paired with the subtle mint notes of the Christmas Gertie cookie, however.
