As Disney Cruise Line previously announced, Very Merrytime Cruises have a new tree lighting ceremony this year. Mickey and Minnie’s Merrytime Tree Lighting is a small show that takes place on the first night of each sailing, in the atrium. We attended the show on the Disney Magic, but it is performed on every ship.
Mickey and Minnie’s Merrytime Tree Lighting
The description in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app reads:
Gather in the Atrium with Mickey, Minnie, and their friends for this joyful Merrytime celebration of singing songs and lighting the Christmas tree together!
Disney Cruise Line shared that the ceremony would contain “classic holiday tunes” and “introduce the guests of honor for the cruise” when it announced its 2024 festive offerings earlier this year. Said ‘guest of honor’ may or may not have a large white beard and traditionally wears a red hat.
The tree lighting occurs in the atrium on the ship’s third deck. The show starts with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Goofy waving at guests as they stand above Lumiere’s restaurant.
They descend the garland-adorned stairs and stand in front of the dining venue.
The characters, dressed in their holiday bests, conduct a festive dance while holding large candy canes.
Mickey then brings out a book of music, placing it on a stand in front of him and his friends.
Mickey ‘conducts’ the music as the troupe continues to dance.
Pluto chaotically throws fake snow into the audience, which prompts white confetti to fall from the ceiling.
The tree is ultimately lit, with the gold lights wrapped around the tree allowing the largely gold, silver, and copper-colored ornaments and decorations to truly stand out. The green spotlight that moves around the tree aids in this effect, as well.
The lights on the nearby garland are also activated, prompting the introduction of the guest of honor.
Santa walks down the stairs and waves to Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and guests.
