More weather-proof sheathing and roof paneling have been installed on The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers at Disney’s BoardWalk. The new table-service restaurant and counter-service bakery replace the ESPN Club, which closed permanently in 2022.
The Cake Bake Shop Construction
Since our last construction update, blue weather-proof sheathing has been added to the dormer windows on the building’s first roof.
Wood paneling has also been added to the three layers of roofing.
Crew members were on the first roof when we visited this week, working on one of the dormers.
So far, just the front of the dormers have sheathing, while the steel frameworks of their rooves are still exposed.
A blue tarp covers the front of the roof but wood decking is visible beneath it.
Most of the walls also have sheathing on them around window openings. There is not a wall framework or sheathing on the front lowest wall as that is where the front doors will be.
To the right, a steel framework has been built out from the building where the former ESPN Club entrance was. This will be the counter-service bakery entrance.
The Cake Bake Shop is utilizing the general structure of the ESPN Club, but most of the walls were demolished to create more windows.
There is some wiring hanging around the upper windows, likely for lights.
The Cake Bake Shop was originally scheduled to open this year but it will now open sometime in 2024.
