We’re about a year out from the scheduled opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is replacing Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. While the Magic Kingdom version of the ride is now covered in foliage, the Disneyland version is still getting new rockwork since the California Splash Mountain closed a few months after its Florida counterpart.

Since the Splash Mountain tree was removed, crews have molded a new mountain top that is currently just gray plaster.

It looks like brown paint has been stripped away from around the new plaster, as well.

Blue tarp covers the front of the millhouse that guests ascend through on the ride. In Florida, the front of the millhouse has been painted green.

After rockwork is complete, the mountain will be covered in fake moss and flowers, turning it into the Louisiana bayou.

Scaffolding wraps around the entire mountaintop.

Scrim went up in front of the attraction entrance earlier this month. We haven’t been able to see any changes here, yet.

The Splash Mountain sign was removed back in June.

A steel frame has been erected in front of the two holes in the rockwork on the side of the mountain.

This framework is more permanent than the scaffolding and may be covered in themed paneling later. The holes in the rockwork were tagged with spray paint a few weeks ago.

Disney recently shared a first look at indoor show scenes of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The attraction picks up after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” In 1927, Tiana founded the Tiana’s Foods co-ops, which is located in a salt mine, where cultivators grow crops along the waters. During Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana and alligator Louis venture into the bayou to find animal friends. They’re preparing a special Mardi Gras celebration for the people of New Orleans.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will feature 17 new characters, including Prince Naveen’s younger brother, Ralphie. The Splash Mountain track will remain, but the attraction will get new set dressing and new audio-animatronics. There will be multiple Tiana audio-animatronics, and she will sport a new adventuring outfit.

Tianas Palace Disneyland Opening Day 41

Tiana’s Palace opened in New Orleans Square at Disneyland in September. Read our review of the restaurant. While Splash Mountain was part of Critter Country, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will presumably be absorbed into New Orleans Square.
