A new Spaceship Earth mural highlighting art of the park icon by four different Imagineers has been added for the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts.

The mural can be found on the wall outside of the entrance to Guest Relations. The background is navy blue in a lumpy shape reminiscent of a cloud. Art installations of varying mediums can be found throughout the park during the Festival of the Arts.

The specific artists are not listed. The exercise led four Imagineers to depict Spaceship Earth in their unique vision and style as inspired by “4 Artists Paint 1 Tree,” a 1958 special narrated by Walt Disney.

The painting on the far left shows a partial view from the ground of Spaceship Earth in traditional gray. There are guests and palm trees in the background. The center left shows a more colorful blue and green interpretation of the classic attraction, and retired robot SMRT-1 is in the foreground. SMRT-1 was a part of EPCOT from opening day until 2000. Until 1994, the robot was part of CommuniCore, before its transformation into Innoventions.

CommuniCore and Innoventions are no longer. Innoventions East was gutted for a new shop, Creations, as well as the new eateries, Connections Cafe and Connections Eatery. Innoventions West was demolished to make way for what would ultimately become CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza, as well as Journey of Water Inspired by Moana.

He did a stint for the following six years at the Concourse Steakhouse (now home to Contempo Cafe) in Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The center right art depicts Spaceship Earth in her modern style with the pylon fountain in the foreground. The geodesic dome is sparkling from the special lighting installed in 2021.

The final piece is a cartoony watercolor-style painting of the main entrance plaza, complete with the pylon fountain and the flags representing different EPCOT pavilions.

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts includes specialty food & beverage, live entertainment, and arts aplenty — both to purchase and participate in. It runs from January 12 – December 19.
