Construction is trucking along at the future site of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza area of EPCOT, including an update to the CommuniCore Plaza stage.
Though the completion of CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza was pushed back from 2023 to 2024, progress is being made throughout the area, which will take up the south west section of World Celebration. Here’s a recap of all the changes we noticed on a recent monorail ride around the space. Once completed, the area will include a new Mickey & Friends meet and greet location, a demo kitchen, gallery space, mixology bar, and a a stage for live performances.
Last month, we noticed crews preparing electric work for light-up pavement in this area. Now, it appears that some of that has been paved. On the right side will be a covered walkway area. When we last visited, the section was still just steel framework, but now that framing has been covered will black paneling to create walls.
While guests work on the Expression Section paint-by-number mural for the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, work is being done just beyond the temporary wall. The six light structures in the photo will eventually become the central area of CommuniCore Plaza. Beyond those lights, in the background of the image, will be a covered outdoor stage area, and it has recently gotten a new update.
At a closer glance, you can see that the bottom of what will be the stage, theming has been added to replicate the look of the exterior of Spaceship Earth.
In the 2022 concept art above, you can see what the expected final stage will look like, with the Spaceship Earth-style edge of the stage looking pretty similar to what has been installed.
On the side of CommuniCore Hall building closest to the Imagination Pavilion, progress has been made. On a recent visit, the top portion of the building was painted in a black primer, but now they are white. The walls will likely be covered in more of the Spaceship Earth-inspired paneling we’ve seen on other sides of the building.
In the area behind Moana’s meet and greet, at the former shortcut to The Seas Pavilion, it appears a section of the pavement path has been repaved since our last monorail ride through this area.
