Walt Disney World has announced that it will be dedicating a large acreage of land to support a new affordable housing community in Central Florida.

Walt Disney World Supporting Affordable Housing in Florida

In an update shared on Disney in Florida, the company shared that Walt Disney World would dedicate nearly 80 acres of land for the housing community in collaboration with developer The Michaels Organization.

With The Michaels Organization, Disney will help bring approximately 1,400 units of mixed-income housing to Central Florida, with over 1,000 of those “reserved as affordable.” The website also confirms that Disney “will not benefit financially from this development.”

Once completed, the new community with fit with the neighboring villages in the Horizon West development located in Orange County, Florida, just a few miles away from Magic Kingdom and the Flamingo Crossings Town Center.

The community will feature a mix of buildings with a focus on “storytelling and the arts,” with murals and other elevations for each neighborhood within. It will also offer amenities for residents to utilize to focus on their wellness.

Groundbreaking is targeted for this year, with the first homes expected to be completed in 2026. Applicants to live in this new community will be limited to a certain income range. Information on how to apply and who can qualify will be shared by The Michaels Organization at a later date
