The Chez Alcatraz bar in Universal Studios Florida is now closed and surrounded by construction walls. This fan-favorite bar is getting a makeover and is expected to be demolished and reconstructed.

Chez Alcatraz is located on the dock in the park’s San Francisco area, next to a hanging Bruce the shark from “Jaws.” The dock is still open so guests can access the “Jaws” photo op, but blue-green construction walls around the bar jut into the walkway.

We previously reported that Universal Orlando Resort was accepting contractor bids for the “remodel of an existing kiosk” — Chez Alcatraz. The bid listed demolition, concrete work, millwork, carpentry, drywall work, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.

The current bar will reportedly be completely demolished and a new one will be constructed. Chez Alcatraz has a brown wood roof, a blue awning, white columns, and a white tile counter.

The Chez Alcatraz menu included the “Jaws”-inspired Ocean Attack and Bruce cocktails, and the Alcatraz prison-inspired Escape and The Alcatraz cocktails. It sometimes offers seasonal drinks, like the Zombie Shark cocktail during Halloween Horror Nights last fall.

A blue tarp connects the back of the bar to the construction walls.

Are you looking forward to a newly refreshed Chez Alcatraz bar? There’s no word on how long this project could take, so stay tuned for further Chez Alcatraz construction updates.
