According to Deadline, tracking of Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” indicates it will have the biggest domestic box office year-to-date.
‘Inside Out 2’ Poised to Have Biggest Domestic Box Office of 2024
“Inside Out 2” will be released on June 14, Father’s Day weekend. Experts predict its three-day opening will be between $80 million and $85 million, potentially beating “Dune Part Two” ($82.5 million) and “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire ($80 million).
If “Inside Out 2” is successful, it would be big news for Disney and Pixar. Films from both studios have been underperforming since COVID-19 hit, including Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish” last winter and Pixar’s “Elemental” last summer.
“Inside Out” (2015) made $90.4 million in its first weekend and $858.8 million total worldwide. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The first 35 minutes of the sequel were shown to exhibitors at CinemaCon in April “to great laughs.” Deadline says, “It’s totally a step up from the first movie.”
“Inside Out 2” is directed by Kelsey Mann from a screenplay by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein. It stars Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear (replacing Bill Hader), Liza Lapira as Disgust (replacing Mindy Kaling), Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.
It had the biggest animated trailer launch in Disney history.
A sneak peek of “Inside Out 2” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Joy meet and greet is also moving from EPCOT to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The movie will be featured in the summer 2024 Disney twenty-three issue. Inspired by the film, Airbnb will open Team Riley Headquarters, one of their new Icons.
