Recognizing 50 Magical Years with The Walt Disney Company

Iger’s Disney career began with ABC in 1974, before The Walt Disney Company purchased the network in 1995. Over the next several decades, he worked his way up the ranks of ABC and then Disney. In 2005, he became CEO. He stepped down in 2020 but remained at Disney as an executive chairman, still handling some CEO duties, until the end of 2021. His retirement didn’t last long as he returned as CEO less than a year later when the Disney Board of Directors fired Bob Chapek. Iger’s contract expires in 2026. His replacement could be announced this year.

Iger wrote in his caption on Instagram:

I started my career at ABC 50 years ago today and the business has certainly changed a lot since then! But at the end of the day, success still hinges on one thing: great storytelling. I’m proud to work alongside so many talented colleagues who create exceptional stories and experiences for the world to enjoy… truly the ride of a lifetime!
