Caramel Apples recently disappeared from Walt Disney World due to a recall of caramel. Today, the iconic sweet treat has made its return.
Missing Caramel Apples
In early August of this year, one of our reporters was told that the iconic Mickey Caramel Apples would be pulled from shelves property-wide due to a recall of the caramel used when making the snack.
Since then, we have been tracking all the treat display cases around property to see what alternatives they offer and when the caramel apples would return.
While the guest-favorite treat was gone, we noticed that candy apples had taken over across Walt Disney World. Even in our recent review of the Candy Cauldron soft opening at Disney Springs, only candy apples were available.
In addition, without the caramel apples, giant cookies, cupcakes, and butter bars had taken over the treat displays around the resort. Walt Disney World Resort hotels also did not have caramel apples available for purchase for some time.
Return of Caramel Apples to Magic Kingdom
Almost by magic, while we were working on this story, we saw that Cast Members in the Main Street Confectionery were making none other than… caramel apples! These are still not the long-missed Mickey Caramel Apples, but it is a step toward having the iconic treat back in the parks.
Cast Members were excited to be able to offer the caramel apple again in Magic Kingdom. While we were at Magic Kingdom, we saw them making more behind the showcase glass where you can the delicious treats being crafted.
We also spotted Werther’s Original Caramel Apples for sale yesterday in Karamell-Küche at EPCOT. Previously, the shop once offered an assortment of caramel apples.
