One of the dinosaur Audio-Animatronics has been removed from DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, perhaps heralding the ride’s upcoming permanent closure.

Dinosaur Animatronic Removed from DINOSAUR

A dimly lit dinosaur display in a dark setting at Disney's Animal Kingdom features a large animatronic dinosaur figure illuminated against a backdrop of foliage.

The Alioramus (and its Brachychampsa snack) are missing from the beginning of the ride. Guests would usually encounter the hungry dino, pictured above, after the Styracosaurus and before the Parasaurolophus (hadrosaur).

A dimly lit scene at Disney's Animal Kingdom reveals a variety of colorful lights illuminating trees and foliage, creating a mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of the DINOSAUR attraction.

The computer voice identifying dinosaurs still says “Alioramus” as guests pass the area, although no Alioramus is to be seen. A bright spotlight now just illuminates a bush.

In a dimly lit scene resembling Disney's Animal Kingdom, an animatronic dinosaur figure stands on the left, enveloped by swirling blue and yellow lights against a dark backdrop.

Disney has attempted to fill out the space with some extra raptor figures. There is one on the left and two on the right, where the Alioramus was, with some extra lighting. Another raptor has always appeared and been identified after the hadrosaur.

The sign featuring the Alioramus eating a Brachychampsa is still at the exit.

DINOSAUR is set to close permanently and be turned into an Indiana Jones ride, which will open in 2027. Disney has not announced an exact closing date for DINOSAUR but promised fans plenty of time to ride it for a final time. The rest of DinoLand U.S.A. is going to close in phases beginning this year to become the Tropical Americas-themed Pueblo Esperanza land, which will also have an “Encanto” ride.

Though DINOSAUR will hopefully be around until at least 2025, it may be that Disney is starting to remove elements from the ride permanently. The Alioramus could be the first casualty.

It is also possible, however, that the Alioramus experienced an issue and will be restored before the ride’s permanent closure. Fingers crossed we’ll see the dino again.

DINOSAUR and DinoLand U.S.A. opened with Disney’s Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998. The ride was originally named Countdown to Extinction. It was developed simultaneously with Disney’s 2000 animated feature “Dinosaur” and its name was changed when the movie was released. The ride also received other minor modifications to make it slightly more family-friendly. On DINOSAUR, guests travel back in time to the Cretaceous period in search of an Iguanodon (the film’s protagonist, Aladar). The villain of the ride is a hungry Carnotaurus.
