Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, will be one of the featured attractions in Dark Universe when Epic Universe opens next year. The attraction will be set inside Frankenstein Manor, as Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-great granddaughter of Dr. Henry Frankenstein, invites guests to view her latest experiment.

As if the setting and storyline for the ride weren’t creepy enough, now we know that even more has been added to make guests leap out of their skin: jumpscares while waiting in line. We assume scareactors will be the source of the jumpscares, but perhaps there is a chance that some scares could be programmed into the queue in other ways? Hall didn’t confirm during the panel.

A person is depicted being propelled through a portal with bats and debris around, set against a red and blue swirling background in a sci-fi fantasy scene.

Epic Universe is set to open on May 22, 2025. The new theme park will feature four lands, including Dark Universe, set around Celestial Park, the theme park’s hub.

Dark Universe puts guests in the village of Darkmoor, where they “will encounter everything from the experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein to a shadowy landscape where monsters roam in this world of myth and mystery.” To see the land’s progress, as well as the latest construction on Frankenstein Manor, check out the latest aerial photos from Bioreconsruct.

During yesterday’s New York Comic Con panel, the Universal Creative team also announced that the Phantom of the Opera and the Creature From the Black Lagoon will be greeting guests in Dark Universe.

  1. Yes! It was awesome when they had it in Skull Island Reign of Kong. I’ve been wishing they’d bring it back. Dark Universe is the perfect place for it.
