Only a few weeks remain until the DVC Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows opens. The mural work on the exterior has expanded, and even patio furniture has been set up in the balconies.
DVC Island Tower Construction
Painters are still working on the mural at the far-right the entrance to the Island Tower. The boards have also been removed from the patios along its right wing, likely since work has concluded in that space.
Painting and rock work can still be seen at the base of the building under the mural.
On the opposite side of the entrance, mural work carefully continues around the windows. The white rock work at the bottom of the tower appears to be complete.
On the far left side of the tower, mural work has just begun, revealing a similar pattern seen throughout the building’s exterior design.
On the water side of construction, there are many updates, including testing of Moana Splash Pad, new light fixtures, and even patio furniture.
Fresh concrete has dried in between the existing buildings and the new construction. This area is still blocked from guests, but other walls have migrated, opening more walking space to guests.
Here is a look at the newly concreted space overlooking the Island Tower Pool. In previous updates, the pool furniture could be spotted, but now crews have started to uncover the umbrellas.
Previously, the walkway behind Fiji was blocked by the walls surrounding the construction. Now that the concrete work has been completed in this area, the walls have been pushed back all the way to the pool’s fence line.
There is even a section that does not have walls, allowing guests to better see the construction just behind the pool.
Here you can see just how close you can get to the newest Disney resort prior to opening.
Many of the umbrellas and chairs remain covered, but in place and ready for guests. There were a few unbagged and unfolded umbrellas closer to the walled area.
Here is the view standing between the buildings Tuvalu and Fiji. More walls have been removed in this area as well.
This path reopening is perhaps the best sign that construction is running smoothly and that the DVC Island Tower is getting closer to opening.
On the water-facing side of the tower, one of the terrace gardens has added some Polynesian-inspired light fixtures to either side of the space. The woodwork on the wall also shows silhouettes of birds.
At this corner space, mural work can be seen matching the same art on the front of the building.
Patio furniture has also been set on many of the rooms’ balconies, revealing the standard two chairs and table.
The bar area outside has also seen some updates. There is some fresh concrete that continues the walking path and even some added details inside the space.
A closer look reveals some plants that still need to be planted, covered chairs surrounding the black bar, and smaller tables and chairs set up around the perimeter of the space. There are even taps installed behind the bar.
A little further down, there are some built-in booth-style tables and regular chairs and tables set up. Above the space, light fixtures with a basket weave glow.
Perhaps the most exciting update other than the walls moving back, giving guests more walkway space, and even some guests their balcony space, was seeing the Moana splash pad being tested. The outrigger canoe and Moana figure look very well done.
The DVC Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows opens on December 17, 2024.
