The show premiered on Disney+ in November 2022, and just two months after the end of its first season, it was rejected for additional content.

The show was based on the 1988 Lucasfilm movie of the same title, “Willow.” It ran an eight-episode first season and received mixed reviews. The show served as a sequel to the classic film directed by Ron Howard.

In the original high-fantasy film, a young farmer named Willow Ulfgood is chosen to go on a dangerous journey. His task is to fulfill a prophecy and save a special infant from a murderous, power-hungry sorceress and queen.

As per the description previously on Disney+, “Willow” is “an epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted land of breathtaking beauty.”

Nearly a year and a half after the show was removed from Disney+, Warwick Davis is sharing his disdain for the show being canceled. He took to social media, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo from the show and referring to the cancellation of the show as “a travesty.” Other fans of “Willow” surely share Davis’ frustration in no longer being able to watch its one and only season.

Disney canceled another show just this year, “The Acolyte,” in a similar fashion after just one season. The Disney+ Star Wars series finished its eight-episode run on July 16, 2024.

  1. The reality is the romance-period for streaming shows has worn off and now show that don’t make it out of the gate are getting cancelled. That is no different than how it always was on network TV for decades. For a studio to continue to hang on and fund a streaming show that has not gathered a healthy enough audience just does not make financial sense, and it didn’t for newark or cable TV then and now.
The difference now (compared to before streaming and even before cable TV) is that there is vastly more content to choose from and that includes YouTube. There is just not enough viewers to go around for the amount of content there is!

  2. Sorry Mr. Davis, I am a fan, but I didn’t enjoy the series. Willow the movie set your character up to be quite the wizard. You being a charlatan of sorts was complete and utter shit. Disney Luke Skywalkered you. You deserved better. Ryan Reynolds is right F*** Disney.

  3. Didn’t care for the show, honestly. It dragged and seemed somehow derivative, but not of the movie.

Also, successful shows aren’t cancelled. This has always been true. You can make all the art you want, but if nobody buys it, it isn’t successful.
