Earlier this year, Disney announced a year-long refurbishment of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. This refurbishment began late in September 2024 and is set to conclude by September 2025. We saw work really picking up in October, as furniture was cleared from rooms and the first phase began in earnest.
Bay Lake Tower – First Look
Now we are seeing the first images of the reimagined units, with nods to classic Walt Disney World elements like Space Mountain, the Walt Disney World Monorail, and artwork by Disney Legend Mary Blair.
And while our sneak peek is somewhat limited in scope, it did give us a good idea of what the final product will look like. The new look appears to be a slight departure from the current villas, which feature neutral tones, and sleek furniture. The outgoing color palette consists of soft grays, warm beiges, and muted blues with accents of wood and metallic finishes.
You may recall we recently got a look at some of the new Murphy beds being moved into the tower, which have distinctive stylized Magic Kingdom artwork on them. The art features Cinderella Castle in a mid-century modern style, featuring bold colors with striking white in contrast. The art appears to be inspired by Mary Blair’s iconic style, which is featured heavily at the resort.
And now we can see wallpaper with that distinctive Mary Blair flair, a tribute to her iconic mural in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which features her famous 5-legged goat, along with other lovable creatures.
Additional elements we can now see include a coffee station and kitchenette counter, both with a green backsplash with geometric ovals. The new cabinets appear to be more of a cognac color with a matte finish, while the old cabinets appeared to be slightly darker with a shiny finish. The cabinet hardware is gold, replacing the old chrome.
Of particular note to fans of Walt Disney World are the bedside lamps, which reveal silhouettes of Space Mountain and the Walt Disney World Monorail when turned on, or an alternate view that features Disney’s Contemporary Resort. A padded headboard is also visible in those photos, with a reading light that pops out of the headboard.
A small sitting area is shown next to the sliding glass door, and it features various shades of orange mixed with some deep reds. The mirror’s reflection gives us a look at some of the artwork next to the bed, which features the Astro Orbiter and Space Mountain. The room features an Amazon Echo Show, which is now a standard amenity. A spacious desk has a padded stool.
Artwork above the commode continues the Mid-century modern aesthetic, with representations of Liberty Square and the Rivers of America with Cinderella Castle in the background.
As the project presses on toward an expected completion date in September of 2025, this first look seems to indicate that guests can expect an interesting color palette once the project is complete.
