The limited-time “it’s a small world with Groot” overlay has debuted at Tokyo Disneyland.
“it’s a small world with Groot”
“it’s a small world” at Tokyo Disneyland will be “it’s a small world with Groot” from January 15 through June 30, 2025. Groot has been added to the attraction’s entrance sign. The rest of the facade remains untouched.
The Marvel overlay sees Groot of the Guardians of the Galaxy traveling around Earth with various friends. An updated music loop including Marvel songs plays outside the attraction.
Guests first see Groot in the entrance room, where a cutout of him is descending from the Guardians of the Galaxy’s spaceship. He then appears on a boat sailing into “it’s a small world.”
Groot and his friend have replaced several “it’s a small world” dolls. Groot is depicted in various costumes as he experiences different countries and cultures. The first Groot doll has joined a group of U.K. musicians. His suitcase, camera, map, and binoculars sit next to him. In several instances, Groot has used his natural powers to grow himself accessories, like his foliage hat.
Around the bend, Groot wears a leafy dress and holds a shepherd’s crook.
In addition to Groot, Marvel characters like Black Panther, Captain America, Mantis, Gamora, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Thor, and Rocket Raccoon appear. Disney previously shared a look at some of the ride’s new Marvel figures.
Rocket Raccoon is in Italy, lounging on a modified gondola to which he’s added a jet engine. Groot hangs onto the front of the boat, dressed as a gondolier and holding a button that will launch the gondola forward.
In the next room, Groot and Professor Hulk have joined Hercules in holding up Grecian structures.
Hulk looks at ease while Groot, wearing a toga, is struggling.
Mantis and Gamora have joined Groot for a picnic under a cherry blossom tree. Groot is growing his own cherry blossom flowers and handing them to his friends.
Across the way, Doctor Strange and Wong appear with Groot. They’ve exited a portal next to the pool in front of the Taj Mahal. Groot is wearing a robe similar to the sorcerers’ apparel. Strange and Wong’s magical rings spin.
In the next room, Groot joins Ms. Marvel at the Egyptian pyramids. Ms. Marvel has created “hardlight” platforms for Groot to climb and he holds the end of her scarf.
Several heart-shaped herbs from “Black Panther” have been added to the Africa scene. Shuri is holding one of the glowing purple flowers, while Groot seems to be thinking about stealing another.
Ant-Man and the Wasp are depicted riding an ant through the desert. Groot is holding a giant magnifying glass in front of them.
Captain America and Groot are playing with penguins in Antarctica. They’re sledding on Cap’s shield. Groot is keeping warm with a striped scarf.
Nebula and Star-Lord are with Groot in this Central American scene. Nebula plays a lute, while Star-Lord is flying through the sky with a boombox. Groot, wearing a striped poncho and shaking maracas, sits on a bird.
Captain Marvel is flying up a Mexican pyramid. Groot is holding onto her foot and his map of the Earth.
Thor has joined Groot in the rainforest. They’re both behind the silvery sheets of rain, with Groot holding an umbrella.
Thor has Mjölnir raised and flashes of lightning shoot from the hammer.
In the Polynesian room, Groot is playing a ukulele in a ring of fire.
The final Groot doll is playing a long trumpet. Around him are souvenirs from his travels, including his gondolier hat and Cap’s shield. His yellow suitcase is now covered in stickers from around the world, including a sticker of Mr. Broccoli from Kitchen Kabaret, a defunct EPCOT attraction.
Groot does not appear in the finale room of dolls from around the world wearing white. But he is in the goodbye room, depicted in different postcard scenes. He’s hanging onto a giraffe in Africa and flying on a kite in Japan.
He’s also shown driving a red double-decker bus in the U.K.
