The broken section of the Soarin’ Around the World queue ceiling in EPCOT is now covered by a strip of scrim.
Soarin’ Ceiling
The broken section of the ceiling is just past the attraction’s main entrance inside The Land Pavilion. A long piece of tan scrim is across the wood-paneled ceiling where a section collapsed a few days ago.
The scrim is under the queue’s curved ceiling light support, although it looks like some of the lights may have been removed.
Earlier this week, a video showed the broken ceiling with pieces dangling and sitting on the ground, while Cast Members looked shocked. Although the original poster said the collapsing ceiling nearly hit guests and Cast Members, Disney representatives stated the attraction and queue were closed for the evening when the incident occurred. They also stated the issue had been fixed — evidently with the scrim. A more permanent solution is likely in the works.
Soarin’ Around the World lifts guests into the air in front of a massive IMAX-like screen. The vehicles tilt like hang-gliders as guests are immersed in aerial scenes. They fly over iconic landmarks like the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, and the Serengeti. Dynamic sounds and scents enhance the experience.
It originally opened at Disney California Adventure as Soarin’ Over California in 2001. It opened in EPCOT as Soarin’, but still with just California destinations, in 2005. In 2016, both versions were updated to include global locations and the name was changed to Soarin’ Around the World. Soarin’ Over California has returned, once at EPCOT for the 100 Years of Wonder celebration, and multiple times at Disney California Adventure for the Food & Wine Festival. At Shanghai Disneyland, the ride is Soaring Over the Horizon, and at Tokyo DisneySea, it’s Soaring: Fantastic Flight.
