According to a Variety source “with knowledge of her plans,” Kennedy will retire after her contract ends at the end of 2025. However, another source also said nothing has been decided.

Kennedy became the co-chair of Lucasfilm in 2012 alongside George Lucas. When The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm soon after, Lucas exited and Kennedy was named president.

She oversaw the development and production of the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, “Rogue One,” “Solo,” and the live-action Disney+ “Star Wars” shows like “The Mandalorian” and “Andor.” She also produced “Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny.”

Kennedy is producing “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which will be in theaters on May 22, 2026.

In 1981, Kennedy co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Steven Spielberg and her future husband Frank Marshall. She and Marshall went on to create The Kennedy/Marshall Company in 1992. Her producer and executive producer credits include “Jurassic Park,” “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial,” “The Sixth Sense,” “Back to the Future,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” Gremlins,” and “The Goonies.”

George Lucas founded Lucasfilm in 1971. It was incorporated in 1977 following the release of “Star Wars,” later dubbed “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” In addition to the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises, Lucasfilm’s famous productions include “American Graffiti,” “Labyrinth,” “Willow,” and “The Land Before Time.”
