Disney’s newest live-action film set to premiere in theaters this summer is a remake of the classic 2002 film “Lilo & Stitch.” Disney released the first trailer for the remake on March 12, and it quickly started trending on social media platforms. Within the first hour of the trailer’s release, “Lilo & Stitch” reached the number one trending spot on X and remained in the top ten for the next several hours. Likewise, the trailer reached the number one trending spot on YouTube within a few hours.
Today, Deadline has confirmed the new “Lilo & Stitch” trailer has recorded 158 million views in 24-hours, making it the second most viewed Disney live-action trailer of all time. This trailer only comes behind the trailer for the 2019 remake of “The Lion King.”

“Lilo & Stitch” will arrive in theaters on May 2. The new film stars newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo Pelekai and has Chris Sanders returning from the original animated film as the voice of Stitch. The film also stars Sydney Agudong as Nani Pelekai, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Kaipo Dudoit as David Kawena, Tia Carrere (the original film’s Nani) as new character Mrs. Kekoa, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Amy Hill as David’s grandmother Tūtū, and Jason Scott Lee (the original voice of David) as a lūʻau manager.
Disney had previously released a short ad showing Stitch crashing the Super Bowl, which also generated 173.1M views in 24 hours. The ad became Disney’s most digitally-viewed spot of all time according to Deadline. Back in December, a short teaser trailer also played homage to the marketing for the original “Lilo & Stitch,” with a parody of “The Lion King” showing Rafiki holding Stitch instead of Simba.
