Marvel Achieves All-Time Stream Record with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast Announcement

According to Deadline, Marvel’s recent livestream announcing the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” was their biggest to date.

Breaking Streaming Records

A row of director's chairs, with the closest labeled "Paul Rudd," are set up on a dimly lit stage.

In the five-plus-hour social media livestream, the video panned to a new director’s chair with an actor’s name printed on the back every 10 – 15 minutes. During that time, the stream received 275 million digital views and 3.1 millions social mentions. With the audience growing each hour, the number grew to more than 5x the social volume of the “Deadpool & Wolverine” Super Bowl trailer from last year. This made it Marvel’s biggest livestream, even bigger than any red carpet premiere, according to the article by Deadline.

Per the post,

The stunt yielded over 55 distinct trending terms on Twitter/X throughout the day with #AvengersDoomsday holding the #1 trending spot on Twitter/X for over 7 hours. After 24 hours, the official Marvel YouTube livestream was at #2 on trending.

Actors Revealed

In a dimly lit room, a person in a suit sits on a director's chair, gesturing for silence with a finger to their lips. The scene feels like an intense moment straight from the production of "Avengers: Doomsday," as they sit before a row of chairs labeled with various names.

The following actors were revealed during the livestream:

  • Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
  • Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman)
  • Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Captain America)
  • Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier)

  • Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
  • Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova / Black Widow)
  • Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy / Beast)
  • Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds / Sentry)
  • Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres / Falcon)

  • Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom)

The actors are listed above with their known characters, but given the multiverse nature of recent Marvel Cinematic Universe stories, it’s always possible the actors could take on different roles. We already knew Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU after Tony Stark / Iron Man died in “Avengers: Endgame.” This Time, Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom, though there is a connection between Doom and Iron Man.

Watch the full reveal here:

Chris Evans will also return to the MCU in some capacity for “Avengers: Doomsday” after seemingly retiring from the role of Steve Rogers / Captain America. After living out a life in the past, Rogers gave up the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. Evans made a cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Johnny Storm from Fox’s “Fantastic Four” films. We don’t know which character, if either, he will portray or what universe the character will be from. Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter but again, we don’t know if she will be from the MCU’s main universe (Earth-616) or an alternate universe.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is the fifth Avengers film, the first since the landmark “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). It was originally titled “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” but Marvel shifted their story plans after Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was convicted of assault. Doctor Doom will replace Kang as the villain.

The Russo Brothers are directing “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.” “Doomsday” will be in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by “Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027.

The films are part of the MCU’s Phase Six, which begins with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” (July 25, 2025) and includes an untitled fourth “Spider-Man” film (July 31, 2026). Releasing on May 2 of this year, “Thunderbolts*” will mark the end of Phase Five.
