National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Fire Warning for Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has changed their fire weather watch to a red flag warning for Central Florida, including Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort.

Fire Warnings

Map of Florida highlighting counties under Red Flag Warning due to winds and low humidity. Advisories include avoiding open flames and keeping vehicles off dry grass.

The red flag warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025. It’s for East Central Florida, including Orange and Osceola counties, where Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort are located. The other affected counties are Volusia, Lake, Seminole, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Okeechobee, and Martin.

The red flag warning means “critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly” due to dry conditions from a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures.

Although today is relatively cool for Central Florida, with temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s, wind guests will reach up to 25 to 30 miles per hour and humidity is just 25 to 35 percent.

Illustrated wildfire safety tips include discarding cigarettes properly, avoiding sparks, obeying burn bans, and evacuating if fire or smoke approaches. Weather.gov/fire is cited.

The NWS shared a wildfire safety graphic. They encourage people to properly discard cigarettes, keep vehicles off of dry grass, avoid activities with open flames or sparks, avoid power equipment that creates sparks, and evacuate if fire/smoke is headed your way or if ordered to do so by local officials. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Residents and guests, including those staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, should avoid outdoor burning like grilling or campfires.
