As construction continues on “it’s a small world” and the nearby area in preparation for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebrations, a small section of the new pavement close the attraction has been revealed.

New “it’s a small world” Pavement Section

Construction walls at the amusement park echo the whimsical charm of Disneyland, as two workers in safety vests diligently attend to their tasks. Amidst decorative structures, a partially visible carousel roof conjures memories of "it's a small world.

“it’s a small world” at Disneyland Park has been closed for an extensive refurbishment that started in January. While no official reopening date has been announced, it is anticipated that the attraction will reopen by July 17 to debut the new verse of the attraction’s classic song. The new verse is being added as a tribute to the late Sherman Brothers during the Disneyland 70th anniversary celebrations.

As the refurbishment progresses, the white construction walls around the area have been shifted once again since our last construction update. Now, one new section of the pavement has been revealed in the Small World Mall area, near the entrance to the Toy Shop.

The new pavement is comprised of red and black colored bricks laid in a perpendicular pattern. The line where the new bricks meet the older concrete of the Small World Mall area is very apparent when viewed from the side.

A herringbone-patterned brick walkway between white walls with blue trim resembles a hidden gem at Disneyland Park; a person is walking away at the end, momentarily capturing the magic of "it's a small world" in every step along the pavement.

So far, the new bricks are only visible in this narrow walkway between two construction walls. However, it is expected that most of the walkways surrounding “it’s a small world” will receive the new pavement at some point.

A close-up view of pavement made of interlocking, rectangular bricks in varying shades of red, gray, and brown, beautifully arranged in a herringbone pattern that brings to mind the whimsical pathways at Disneyland Park.

The line between the old and new bricks is also easy to spot. The newer bricks are much darker than the old bricks, especially since the older pavement has been worn down over the past several years. However, our reporter noted that the new bricks seem to be a darker color than the older bricks, even before they were worn and the colors faded.

A patterned concrete sidewalk at Disneyland Park features alternating brick designs, embodying an "it's a small world" theme where contrasts between smooth and textured surfaces come to life. Shadows of trees and people are partially visible on the upper edges, adding depth to the pavement.

Interestingly, this pavement is very different from the small test section we found under the nearby popcorn cart back in 2024. The test pavement in this area was made of larger square pieces that all had the same speckled pattern.

A walkway with a pattern of interlocking red and gray bricks, reminiscent of the charm found in Disneyland Park, bordered by light blue trimming on cream-colored walls.

At the time, we assumed the speckled square-style pavement would be added to most of the walkways around the attraction. It now appears there may be multiple styles of pavement going around “it’s a small world,” or perhaps Disney did not like the look of this test and decided not to use it in the other areas. We will have to wait and see once the construction walls shift again and more areas around the attraction are revealed.
