A new exhibit featuring both original and concept art from the Pixar series “Win or Lose” is now available to guests visiting the Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort.
‘Win or Lose’ Exhibit
The new exhibit is located on the second-floor atrium of the resort’s main lobby building. A sign advertising the exhibit has been placed on the first floor. The “Win or Lose” exhibit is not a hotel guest-exclusive amenity, and anyone visiting the resort can go up to the second floor to walk through the space.
Additional signs located on the second floor guide guests toward the entrance for the exhibit.
This balcony above the main lobby atrium in the Pixar Place Hotel was previously used for a similar art display themed to “Inside Out 2.” Since this hallway is located between the entrances to two large conference rooms, it may close early in the afternoon if there is a planned event taking place. When we originally visited, the exhibit closed early at 5 p.m.
Near the entrance to the exhibit, a large mural uses the same art as the original teaser image released during the D23 Expo in 2022.
The series follows multiple main characters who are all related to the Pickles, a co-ed softball team. This first original art piece, titled “Gamenight Huddle” by Maria Yi, depicts characters from the team grouped together to discuss strategy.
The next original art piece was created by Noah Klocek and is titled “Ira’s Perspective Vision.” Ira is the younger brother of team member Taylor, who gets bored after being forced to watch his sister’s softball games. Ira uses a cardboard telescope to imagine the world in his own unique way.
Appropriately titled “Yuwen’s Ego,” this piece by Chris Sasaki depicts the character Yuwen, who hides his insecurity by pretending to be overconfident.
Another original piece by Klocek is titled “Kai’s Euphoria.” Kai is already one of the star players in the Pickles, but she is pressured by her father to be better than all the other children.
This additional piece by Klocek is simply titled “Frank.” Frank is a teacher who also acts as the umpire for the team’s softball games.
Klocek’s next piece shows an image of Frank’s “Dating App Game.” Franks starts playing in a digital dating game after breaking up with his girlfriend.
In between the walls of original art, cases also display concept art and maquettes used for “Win or Lose.” All three maquettes were created by Greg Dykstra. The first character is Rochelle, a young student who has to work part-time jobs so she can pay the fees to stay on the team.
The next maquette depicts Vanessa, the mom of Rochelle who works as a social media influencer.
The final maquette shows Laurie, who was introduced in the first episode as one of Disney’s first openly Christian characters in nearly 20 years.
A wall near the character models showcases multiple pieces of concept art created for the Pixar series. The art features most of the characters from the show, many of whom are drawn using different styles and expressions.
In addition to the logo for the Pickles softball team, more characters are shown with different facial expressions.
Once guests round the corner with the concept art, there are a few more pieces of original art. This piece by Paul Abadilla is called “Gas Station Lighting Study.”
This next piece by Klocek is called “Softball Field,” as it depicts the field where the Pickles play their games.
Klocek’s next piece is titled “Kai’s Perspective,” and shows the word from Kai’s point of view.
Klocek’s following piece shows the world from “Little Yuwen’s Perspective.” Little Yuwen represents all of Yuwen’s inner feelings and fears he hides behind his overly loud exterior.
This second piece by Yi shows “Coach Dan.” Specifically, the coach is seen as an awe-inspiring and slightly intimidating figure, because this is how he is perceived by his anxious daughter Laurie.
The final image by Klocek is called “Coach Dan and the Softball Field.” The coach is seen walking the field at sunset.
“Win or Lose” is a new Pixar long-form series streaming exclusively on Disney+. While the series was originally supposed to premiere in late 2023, it was eventually pushed back to February 19, 2025. Seven of the expected eight episodes are already available.
