These are the first confirmed actors for the new series, though many had previously been rumored. HBO launched an open casting call last fall for the main roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, receiving over 30,000 submissions. The show is expected to begin filming this summer.

HBO has described the show as a “faithful adaption” to the fan-favorite book series by J.K. Rowling. The official description of the series reads, “Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences.”

The series is written and executive produced by Gardiner, who is also the showrunner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series. The series is also executive produced by Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.

The “Harry Potter” series will be a decade-long seven-season adaption of the books. The TV series was first confirmed by HBO in 2023 and will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. The company has described the series as follows:

The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.

The “Harry Potter” series is set to air on HBO in late 2026 or early 2027.
