Astro Orbiter Reassembly Begins at Magic Kingdom

Crews have reinstalled the first piece of Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom after the attraction was disassembled for refurbishment.

The center column that controls the ride’s rockets is back on the platform above the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Crews have not yet installed any theming or the arms with the vehicles.

The column isn’t visible from the ground, but we could see it while riding on the PeopleMover. The Astro Orbiter closed for refurbishment in January. The attraction was quickly dismantled and removed from the park to be refurbished off-site.

A construction crane truck is parked near the Astro Orbiter by a futuristic pavilion, hinting at possible reassembly work.

Earlier this week, WDWNT reported that a crane was in Tomorrowland, behind construction walls, for the ride’s reinstallation. Disney has not announced a reopening date, and Astro Orbiter is still listed as closed through at least July 8, as far as the calendar on the Walt Disney World website currently goes. The ride could still potentially open sooner.

The Astro Orbitor at Disneyland underwent a major refurbishment last year. Like its Florida counterpart, it was also deconstructed and removed. It reopened in April 2024.
