According to some new reports and posts by Disney Cast Members, Disney had scheduled a new filming event at MuppetVision 3D prior to the show’s impending closure.

According to a new article from WDWmagic.com, several Disney Live Entertainment Cast Members have posted reports of Disney scheduling a special event at MuppetVision 3D. The event, which is simply titled “Filming Event – Archiving MuppetVision 3D!” according to the Cast Members, is scheduled for sometime in mid-May. The article did not include a specific date.

The reason Disney posted the event notice is because Cast Members are being invited to register as audience members to sit in the theater while the show is filmed. Disney has not shared any other information about the filming so far, including how this seemingly archival footage will be used or if it will be available later for guests to view.

Disney announced MuppetVision 3D is set to permanently close at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 7, 2025. The area that is currently called Grand Avenue will be transformed into Monstropolis from Monsters, Inc. and include the previously-announced suspended coaster themed to the film’s door warehouse. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will close permanently on May 10, 2025, while the nearby PizzeRizzo restaurant will close on the same day as MuppetVision.

Disney has stated that they are “exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future,” but has refused to confirm exactly what these plans include or if the show will ever again be available in its original format. Around the same time, Disney did confirm that the Muppets will be taking over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as the first Muppets-themed attraction at a Disney park.

If you want to say goodbye to this beloved Muppets show, WDWNT is hosting “A Glorious Finale” on June 5 through the 7. The event will include a meet & greet plus autograph signing with former Imagineers as well as a day of panels and presentations about the creation of MuppetVision 3D. Both in-person tickets and online streaming tickets are currently available now on our dedicated event webpage, along with more information and the full event schedule.
