Ka Maka Pool and Grotto at Disney’s Aulani Resort Closing for Refurbishment This Fall

As part of ongoing maintenance at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ka Maka Pool and Grotto will be unavailable for a limited time this fall.

Ka Maka Grotto Closing for Refurbishment

A new location at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, is going to be closed for refurbishment later this year. Ka Maka Pool and Grotto, including the Ka Maka whirlpool spa, will be unavailable from October 19 through November 14, 2025. These amenities are expected to reopen on November 15, 2025, according to a new update sent to Disney travel agents.

During this time, guests are invited to make a splash at any of the other fun water features including Waikolohe Pool and Stream, the resort’s two water slides, whirlpool spas, Keiki Cove splash zone, and Wailana adult pool.

As is common with this type of refurbishment project, the announcement from Disney included a warning about possible noise in the vicinity, “During construction, the comfort and enjoyment of guests is the top priority of Cast Members; however, it is possible that guests may see or hear construction work, but noise should not be heard between dusk and 8 a.m.”

Ka Maka Grotto is a family pool at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai‘i. Designed with families in mind, the pool features an infinity edge overlooking Ko Olina Beach, a misty grotto, and an after-dark experience with “thousands of glittering lights.”

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa

Aulani opened in 2011 on the island of Oahu. It was Disney’s third standalone hotel that is not near a theme park, after Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. “Aulani” in Hawaiian is loosely translates as “orange,” “with deep messages,” or “message from the chief.” Then-Imagineer Joe Rohde was the lead designer of the Disney Vacation Club resort.
