MuppetVision 3D will remain open an extra hour on its final day of operation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
MuppetVision 3D Final Hours
MuppetVision 3D will close permanently this weekend, with its final day of performances on Saturday, June 7. The show usually closes one hour before the park, but it will remain open until park close at 10 p.m. on June 7.
In the days leading up to June 7, MuppetVision 3D will still close one hour early: at 8 p.m. on June 4, 9 p.m. on June 5, and 9 p.m. on June 6. It opens at 9 a.m. each day.
Cast Members will be the last to experience MuppetVision 3D during a special event on June 10.
PizzeRizzo is also closing on June 7. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, also in the Grand Avenue section of the park, closed permanently on May 10.
Grand Avenue will become a “Monsters, Inc.” land featuring the long-rumored suspended door coaster, featuring Disney’s first-ever vertical lift.
There are rumors that Disney will record a full performance of MuppetVision 3D for archival purposes. The attraction’s film was already digitized over a decade ago, and Disney stated they are “exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”
MuppetVision 3D was the final project Jim Henson worked on before his death. The attraction opened on May 16, 1991. Read The Jim Henson Company’s statement regarding its closure.
The Muppets will find a new home at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which currently stars Aerosmith. There have long been rumors about Disney removing Aerosmith from the attraction. They have not announced a closing date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The new version of the ride will feature “new tunes” and, in the gift shop, “plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise.”
WDWNT is hosting “A Glorious Finale” from June 5-7 to say goodbye to MuppetVision 3D.
