The official Pixar account on TikTok has posted a video which urges the public to see “Elio” and other original films in theaters.
Pixar on TikTok

The popular new trend has TikTok users looking away from their cameras and spilling “truths” that others may not want to hear. The official Pixar account has jumped on that trend, targeting those who complain about Disney not creating original stories in favor of live-action remakes or sequels.
Looking away and hiding her face, the influencer says, “Stop complaining that Disney doesn’t make original stories if you don’t show up to movie theaters and support them in the first place.”

She continues by urging viewers to go see “Elio” in theaters. This is likely in response to the studio’s troubles with original films and lack of viewership in theaters. While Disney and Pixar have released several original films over the last few years, they have struggled to get a “buy-in” from those looking to watch the movies. Some of Disney’s live-action films seem to do better, whether from true interest or controversy, while the most recent run of Pixar sequel films has smashed box office records.

Disney-Pixar’s newest animated feature film, “Elio,” opened in theaters and subsequently suffered the worst box office opening weekend the studio has ever seen, despite a large amount of advertising around Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Disney Marketing Efforts for Elio Movie

Even prior to the theatrical debut of “Elio,” Disney has been attempting to build demand for the film with in-park advertisements and decor around Walt Disney World. Some of the advertisements included a photo-op and blue carpet at Disney Springs, a takeover of Merchant of Venus in Magic Kingdom, and a limited-time sneak peek of the film in “One Man’s Dream” alongside a small art exhibit. A merchandise collection featuring “Elio”-inspired apparel is now available at multiple locations around Walt Disney World, as well.
Upcoming Pixar Films

Despite some original films not doing well at the box office for Pixar, “Elio” will be followed by another original story, “Hoppers,” in March 2026. The studio just recently announced the title and shared the first concept art of another original film, “Gatto,” which is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
However, Pixar is still banking on the success of sequel films. “Hoppers” will be followed in 2026 with “Toy Story 5” that June. Meanwhile, both “Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2” are already announced to be in the works at Pixar, though neither has a date just yet.
