An update to the My Disney Experience app is letting guests know that today, July 6, is the last day to experience both the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island before they permanently close.
Editor’s Note: Since originally writing this article, Cast Members in Magic Kingdom have now begun handing out wristbands to guests who want to be among the last to ride the Liberty Square Riverboat.
My Disney Experience App Warns Guests of Closures

As previously announced by Disney, today, July 6, is the last day to experience both the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom Park. Both attractions will be closing to make way for the “Cars” expansion of Frontierland.
While warnings of the impending closure were already present on the Walt Disney World website, matching text has been added to the My Disney Experience app. When clicking on the page for the Liberty Square Riverboat, for example, a bright orange paragraph at the top of the page now reads:
The last day to experience the Liberty Square Riverboat is July 6. The attraction and Rivers of America will close permanently on July 7 to make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom. Read the Disney Parks Blog to learn more.
This text is identical to the paragraph added to the attraction’s website page shortly after the closure announcement.

A nearly identical orange warning paragraph is attached to the top of the app window for Tom Sawyer Island, since the two share the same closing date.

One more warning has been added to the top of the window for the Walt Disney World Railroad. While the railroad is not closing permanently, it is being modified during the “Cars” land construction period. Disney announced that the trains will be skipping Frontierland station and operating in “shuttle mode” between Fantasyland (Storybook Circus) and Main Street, U.S.A. Several seats on the train were modified to face the opposite direction, so guests who want to face the direction of travel can do so both ways.
The warning for the Walt Disney World Railroad is not bright orange, but rather dark bolded text above the usual attraction description. It reads:
To make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be operating under a modified route that excludes Frontierland station beginning July 7. The attraction will operate as a shuttle between Main Street station and Fantasyland station only.
In preparation for increased demand, the Liberty Square Riverboat extended its operating hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. As of this morning, Cast Members at the Magic Kingdom were not handing out any wristbands to mark guests who want to participate in the last ride, as they did for the closure of MuppetVision 3D.
