First announced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, via X (formerly Twitter) and later confirmed by Variety, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved video game franchise has found its two leads.

Bo Bragason will be playing Princess Zelda, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The photos shared by Miyamoto appear to be a screen test or early costume imagery.

I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.

Bragason is best known for her roles in BBC One series “Three Girls” and “The Jetty,” and “Renegade Nell” on Disney+. Ainsworth was the voice of the titular puppet in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Pinocchio,” and also starred as Miles in “The Haunting of Bly Manor” for Netflix. Both are English actors.

“The Legend of Zelda” is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027, a slight delay from its originally announced release date of March 26. This delay is due to “production reasons,” according to Miyamoto.

The film is being directed by Wes Ball, director of “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producing. Plot details are unknown at this time, including whether any specific game’s story is being adapted for the big screen.

While “The Legend of Zelda doesn’t have a theme park presence just yet, fans can find merchandise themed to the video game franchise in Super Nintendo World at Universal Epic Universe.
