Deadpool Expected to Appear in Avengers: Doomsday Following Online Speculation

After a frenzy of online rumors, it has reportedly been confirmed that Deadpool, played by actor Ryan Reynolds, will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday is the first addition to the overall Avengers series since Avengers: Endgame premiered in 2019, and the fifth Avengers film overall. It is expected to be an extended story that will conclude with a sequel film titled Avengers: Secret Wars.

Doomsday was originally scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, has now been pushed back to December 18, 2026. Likewise, Secret Wars was pushed back from its May 7, 2027, premiere date to December 17, 2027.

In a dimly lit room,, Robert Downey Jr. sits on a director's chair, gesturing for silence with a finger to their lips. The scene feels like an intense moment straight from the production of "Avengers: Doomsday," as they sit before a row of chairs labeled with various names.

Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by the Russo Brothers and includes a massive cast list from both the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men. A few names from the currently-announced list include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), the members of the Fantastic Four, Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme / Mystique, Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy / Beast), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), and many more.

All of these names were included in a now-infamous livestream of chairs, which broke streaming records for Marvel. However, the livestream did not include the full cast, as both Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell were notably missing despite already being confirmed to appear.

A red anarchist "A" symbol painted over the Avengers logo sparks online speculation of an Avengers: Doomsday crossover.

While most of the cast for the upcoming film has been seemingly revealed already, there has been some ongoing speculation that Deadpool would also be making an appearance. Reynolds was not included as one of the names in the chair livestream. However, on the morning of August 12, Reynolds posted an image on Instagram that showed the classic Avengers “A” symbol defaced with red graffiti. This symbol is the same as one that was used as the logo of The Void’s Resistance from Deadpool & Wolverine, though with a different color scheme. The post included no text, caption, or any other explanation.

However, a recent update from The Hollywood Reporter has reportedly confirmed the appearance of Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday is not just speculation. According to their recent article, “Sources tell Heat Vision that yes, Deadpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.”

The report included no extra information on what Deadpool’s role might be in the new film, but teased, “Don’t expect him to actually be joining the Avengers team, though.”

Reynolds has previously expressed an interest in seeing Deadpool sharing the screen alongside members of the X-Men or the Avengers:

At the time, Reynolds also told THR that he believed Deadpool could appear opposite the X-Men and the Avengers, but that the character joining those teams would have unintended consequences.

Another upcoming Marvel film includes Spider Man: Brand New Day, set to premiere on July 31, 2026. Brand New Day‘s release originally fell between the Avengers films prior to the shifted dates, but they will now release one after the other in December 2026 and December 2027. Together with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the films make up Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
