At the end of the hours-long livestream announcing the “Avengers: Doomsday” cast, Marvel revealed the film is now in production.
The stream revealed a different actor’s chair on a soundstage every 10 minutes or so. After five hours and some surprise X-Men reveals, Robert Downey Jr. arrived and sat in the final chair printed with his name before turning and putting a finger to his lips.
The “Avengers: Doomsday” logo then splashed on screen with “Now In Production.”

Given the MCU’s exploration of multiverses, we don’t know for sure what characters or variants each actor will play.
We already knew the inclusion of some actors, like Downey and the Fantastic Four. The latter group will kick off Phase Six of the MCU with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25, 2025.
Notably absent are some mainstays like Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man). Some characters might not be in “Avengers: Doomsday” but will appear in the follow-up, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” similar to the main casts of “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” Holland will star in the untitled fourth “Spider-Man” film releasing July 31, 2026, between the next two Avengers flicks.
Also missing from the list were Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell, both announced to be returning for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter but it’s not been confirmed if Evans will portray Steve Rogers, a variant, or someone else.
“Avengers: Doomsday” is the fifth Avengers film. It’s directed by the Russo Brothers and will be in theaters on May 1, 2026. “Avengers: Secret Wars” will follow on May 7, 2027.
