The first track from Rivers of America is gone, paving the way for more progress in Frontierland as Disney transforms the area into Piston Peak.
Track Removed from Rivers of America
We took a peek at the progress of the Rivers of America (de)construction, and we noticed that a piece of track has already been removed. The track is what kept the Liberty Square Riverboat on course as it traveled through the river.
This is all we can see from Frontierland. It is unclear if tracks have been removed from the areas of the river that we can’t see.
You’ll notice machinery, lights, scaffolding, construction cones, and trucks as you walk alongside Rivers of America.
Crews are also out draining the last of the small areas of water in the river, which may simply be leftover rainwater.
Rivers of America Progress
Since our last update, Rivers of America is, for the most part, completely drained. There are just a few small puddles around the Liberty Square Riverboat track.
The riverboat closed, along with Tom Sawyer Island, in July. The Liberty Belle was moved backstage, where it remains intact.

There are still full buildings on Tom Sawyer Island, though props have been removed. It’s also unknown how much construction has taken place further inland, outside of guest view.
Piston Peak
Disney has big plans for Rivers of America, as the Rocky Mountains-inspired Cars area will be an expansion to Frontierland named Piston Peak. It will include a river, water features, and barrel bridges in homage to Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
There will be two attractions, including an off-road rally race ride.
Disney designed the area with sightlines in mind. In addition, guests by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or the Haunted Mansion won’t see obvious car-themed architecture.
